Welcome to the #FeatureFriday where we are
on some of the amazing women in our world!
We started our #FeatureFriday series to highlight some of the amazing women we are honored to know and want the world to know about them too! Our feature this week is Erin McDaniel founder of My Fertility Coach! Erin and I met this past summer and I was immediately drawn to her passion to help! She wanted to volunteer with Shine and start a virtual support call and I couldn’t have been more thrilled! Erin is extremely kind, thoughtful, and I am so grateful to have Erin on the Shine team! I am so excited for you all to meet Erin and learn more about her coaching business My Fertility Coach!
Meet Erin 🙂
Tell us a little about My Fertility Coach and your mission. How did you come up with the concept and how hard was it to get started?
My Fertility Coach is a coaching service for women who seek a more positive family building experience. Whether they are actively undergoing fertility treatment or at a decision point about the next step, the women I work with all want to have a more peaceful and empowered experience.
So much of infertility becomes clinical, external, and a list of never ending “to dos” that have fear and guilt attached to them. My approach and mission is to strip away the unnecessary, the things that just cause stress, and help clients feel more connected to their experience, their body, and their future family so they feel encouraged, equipped, and in control.
1. What was the moment you knew you wanted to be a fertility coach?
After having my second son, I knew I wanted to make a career change. I was seeking a new mission and wanted more flexibility in my work life.
My experience of infertility that, I’m blessed to say resulted in my 2 sons, also equipped me to help others facing a similar challenge. When I came across a blog post written by a “fertility coach”, it all clicked. I started researching exactly what that was, how they help, and what my place in the ether could be. My career in marketing, social media, community building, and facilitation have fueled my approach and, really, from the point of reading that blog post in early 2017, it has been clear this is what I’m meant to do.
2. What one fertility coaching post/project/moment are you the most proud of and why?
I’m proud of and inspired by the women I coach who are brave enough to consider another way to travel this road.
3. How would you describe a typical day? What’s your morning to evening routine?
I’m usually late. As much as I try, the siren song of the snooze button gets me just about every morning. Once my baby, who is 10 months old, cries or my 4 year old asks for breakfast, then I’m up and it’s a frenzy of getting everyone ready and out the door. Three days a week I drop both boys at daycare so that I can focus on clients. The other two days I get to hang with my baby and we take walks, play, meet with friends, and he eats and eats and eats.
On work days, I meet with clients either in person or by phone, I prepare content for my newsletter, website, or partners like Shine Fertility, and I participate in coaching classes that help me hone my skills and will ultimately serve me to get certified by the International Coach Federation (ICF).
Evenings are a similar frenzy of dinner, baths, stories, and bedtime. Some nights are dinner and TV with my husband; others include client sessions, a book group, or dinner with a friend.
Basically – normal stuff and I feel so blessed for it.
4. Describe yourself in 3 words?
Positive, enthusiastic, empathetic
5. What individuals, celebrities, entrepreneurs, public figures inspire you?
My mom, friends, and husband. Sheryl Sandberg. Small business owners.
6. If you weren’t in the life coaching world…and could be anything else…what would it be?
A florist. I love flowers and I think everyone loves receiving flowers. What fun to be surrounded by beautiful blooms and have the opportunity to share that every day.
7. You have a free hour, what do you do with your time?
Ideally, exercise. But, lately, it’s reading a book for fun on the couch.
8. What’s on your music playlist? What inspires you?
The Avett Brothers, Adele, Bob Dylan, classical music while I’m working. And, I love a bit of Taylor Swift.
9. What’s your guilty pleasure?
I don’t feel guilty about it, but my favorite night alone activity is watching “Steel Magnolias” with wine, popcorn, cheese, and an apple for dinner.
10. Favorite local coffee shop?
Coffee Joint on Irving Park Road, just west of Damen. Great coffee from a local roaster, Metropolis.
11. Food you can’t live without?
Popcorn, yogurt covered pretzels, wine.
12. Wine, beer or cocktail?

13. Favorite motivational quote?
“Argue for your limitations and sure enough, they’re yours.” — Richard Bach
14. If you could go on vacation anywhere, where would you go?
The Amalfi Coast in Italy
15. What’s next for you and your fertility coaching practice?
I look forward to in-person workshops where women on a family building journey can come together to share their experiences, collaborate on how they can put themselves at the center, and form a network of support. I envision bringing other professionals to the conversation who can share guidance and expertise and answer questions. But most of all, these workshops will be a time of respite, relaxation, hope, and joy. Stay tuned…
