Welcome to the #FeatureFriday where we are
on some of the amazing women in our world!
We started our #FeatureFriday series to highlight some of the amazing women we are honored to know and want the world to know about them too! Our feature this week is Kristen Gottschalk founder of Fetching Tails Foundation! Kristen is beyond an inspiration!! You can feel the passion when she speaks about her foundation and animals!! She recently went down to the areas hit by Hurricane Harvey and rescued animals to be cared for back home in Illinois. From one animal lover to another, I am so excited for you all to meet Kristen and learn more about Fetching Tails Foundation!
Meet Kristen 🙂
Tell us a little about Fetching Tails Foundation and the mission. How did you come up with the concept and how hard was it to get started?
1. What was the moment you knew you wanted to do Fetching Tails?
I knew I wanted to start a non for profit for a dog rescue because my passion is helping those with no voice. We are the ones who have to speak up for them and be their voice. Growing up I was always raised with dogs and my mom was highly involved in a rescue. In 2015 we decided to start our own rescue with a friend. We knew we wanted to help more homeless dogs locally, we wanted to help our community more and more importantly we knew with all 3 of our minds we could have a successful organization.
2. What one Fetching Tails post/project/moment are you the most proud of and why?
I am so proud of where Fetching Tails is. We’re 2.5 years deep and It’s exactly where I want it to be. We have amazing volunteers. donors, and supporters we can count on. Some days I have to pinch myself on how fast we grew and are approaching almost 1000 lives saved already!
3. How would you describe a typical day? What’s your morning to evening routine?
Not only am I Co-Founder of Fetching Tails but I also have my own small business. So my day never stops. I wake up and I am on the go till I go to bed! My husband and I like to watch a show together to relax before bed. But my day consists of many emails, many phone calls and daily errands.
4. Describe yourself in 3 words?
Independent, Outgoing and Adventurous
5. What individuals, celebrities, entrepreneurs, public figures inspire you?
As corny as this sounds I would say my parents. My parents have both had their own business. My dad has been a business owner for decades and my mom had her own non for profit organization before we started one together. So I guess you could say I had those entrepreneur goals in me! My dad has a good sense for the business aspect and my mom has the good understanding of people skills.
6. If you weren’t in the non profit world…and could be anything else…what would it be?
I was a medical sales rep for 10 years of my career and then took this leap of faith to start my own small business and my own non for profit. This all happened at the same time. So to say I was nervous was an understatement but I gave the last 2 years of my life to both to make them successful. I am doing exactly what I am supposed to be doing!
7. You have a free hour, what do you do with your time?
When I have free time I love going on walks with my husband and our 2 adopted labs! It’s time we have no distractions and leave our phones at home. Then we just enjoy each other and talk!
8. What’s on your music playlist? What inspires you?
I am a country girl! I love all country music and that’s what you will usually find on my playlist. My husband got me hooked 10 years ago and now I love it!
9. What’s your guilty pleasure?
My guilty pleasure is hands down reality TV! It’s such bad TV but it’s addicting! I would have to say my favorite is The Bachelor!
10. Favorite local coffee shop?
I honestly enjoy a cup of coffee at home than on the go at a coffee shop! Because i have everything at my house that I like in my coffee. French vanilla coffee beans. French vanilla creamer and sugar! SIMPLE!
11. Food you can’t live without?
CARBS! I love carbs! I wish I could be a healthy eater but I am not. So I love all carbs!
12. Wine, beer or cocktail?
A sweet white wine or my favorite cocktail is Vanilla Stoli and Diet Coke! As you read. I love vanilla!
13. Favorite motivational quote?
14. If you could go on vacation anywhere, where would you go?
I have been fortunate enough to travel to a lot of many amazing places in the world but Greece is at the top of my list one day!
15. What’s next for Fetching Tails?
Growth! There is always room for growth and I plan to do that with always implementing programs for our community and ways we can continue our mission to decreasing the pet population and give all dogs a forever home.
